Ariba

Ariba is a company not far from Jonathan's work. However, they have a pretty nice cafeteria, so workers from several surrounding companies often go there for lunch. When Jonathan's parents were visiting, we all ate there, and I've also been one other time with Jonathan and Jim. Jonathan and Jim go there a few times a month, and generally have great experiences, though the Chicago-style pizza wasn't loved.

My own thoughts are sort of scattered. On one hand, I thought that the panini I had was delicious... the flavors of the Italian meats blended well. The accompanying salad on the side was fairly average, but nice to be included. That's what I had on my first visit. However, on my second, I just wasn't drawn to anything in particular. In fact, after walking around to all of the stations, I decided that I'd rather just wait an hour and eat at home. So that really doesn't bode well for the place, but at the same time I tend to be rather picky, so if I don't feel that anything offered is worth the price given, and I'm not super-hungry, I move on. Of course, that's not to say I won't go again... after all, that first panini was wonderful!

I did find a menu of sorts online, if you're interested.

Pizza: Escape from New York

Jim wanted pizza, and a new place had opened up just a few days earlier near his apartment. So, on our way out of SF, we stopped by Escape from New York and got a Big Meat Combo, which was pepperoni, sausage, onions, and green peppers. I wasn't hungry, so several hours later I reheated a slice, and it was delicious. Over the next week, I enjoyed every piece I microwaved. The guys also liked it. It was expensive for a pizza (like twenty bucks), so I wouldn't order from there often, but I did like that they had sliced sausage instead of crumbled!

Tallahassee: Brooklyn Pizza

Brooklyn Pizza is where Heather and I got dinner the first night that I was in town. It's down on Pensacola Street, and I can't speak much to the ambiance, as we got carry-out.We got calzones, which were pretty good. Maybe they were slightly pricey, but we each got two meals out of one, so maybe not. The flavor was good, and I'd get them again.

A Touch of Brooklyn

Whenever we're in Florida we spend a lot of time catching up with old friends. For lunch on Christmas Eve, we met up with Eric and Kara at A Touch of Brooklyn, which is a pizza place in Sabal Palm Plaza. It was actually like our third choice, but many of the things downtown were closed on Christmas Eve. We'd never been there, so it was as good a place as any.

It's the kind of place where you order at the counter and then they bring it to your table when it's ready. Jonathan and I ordered a dozen garlic knots for the table, but they came reallllly late and there was little to no garlic on them. We ate some, but wouldn't order them again. We didn't finish them.

Eric and Kara split a salad (but they didn't finish it, so I'm not thinking it was excellent). Eric got the 2 slices of pizza deal, and he said it was "okay" pizza. Kara and Jonathan both had the pepperoni roll, and "okay" was the word of choice there, too. I chose the chicken parmagiana sub, which was about average, but it was nice to have as an option. I took part home (and in this case I mean Jonathan's parents' house) and had it a couple days later as a snack.

La Villa

It was kinda funny, actually. We were talking about what to have for dinner (which, on Saturday night, means going through the leftovers in the fridge), and Jonathan suggests we supplement our leftovers with pizza. We weren't swimming in extra food, so I agreed.

We dug through the coupons and pulled out the pizza ones and Jonathan picked La Villa as the place we'd try. After checking out their online reviews and menu, we went with the Trenton Tomato Pie, and added pepperoni. The Trenton Tomato Pie features light mozzarella, chunky tomato sauce, garlic, and olive oil. The crust is suuuuper thin. As in, there's really no way to hold a slice without it being floppy, unless you fold it.

We were slightly skeptical at first, I won't lie. It smelled amazing and all, but it looked kinda average. However, we were not disappointed. The taste was very different... the olive oil/garlic/chunky sauce made for a more bruschetta-like topping, which went very well with the lighter cheese and our added pepperoni.

Our only suggestion: eat it there. By the time we got ours home (probably 15 minutes), it was getting cold and needed to be microwaved. Actually, the place looked pretty nice and with a large menu and good location (right off US1), we might go back to dine-in anyway.

Giggleberry Fair

I was with some kids at Giggleberry Fair for the day. They ran around and played and we had a good time, but I wanted to be sure to brag about their pizza. Not the greatest in the world, but suited the group just fine for lunch. Much better than some other entertainment center pizzas!

FunPlex

I was with some kids at FunPlex in Mount Laurel, NJ, and we had lunch while we were there. I must tell you, the pizza wasn't very good. So, either get something else (I don't really know what else was offered), or eat before you go.

Tonelli's Pizza

Probably six months ago at this point, my friend Dani mentioned that there's a pizza place near her that has pierogie pizza on the menu. Since I'm a big fan of potato-type-pizza (thanks, Stevi B's, for turning me on to that!), I've wanted to try it ever since. Well, I finally got down there and Dani and I went to Tonelli's. It's a sports bar with a lot of televisions, and it was Friday night so it was pretty busy.

We decided to go with a half-pierogie and half-"the great white," in case pierogie turned out to be a dud. The Great White was an olive oil base with garlic and parmesan plus mozzarella, always a winning combination. This pizza was no different, another delicious white pie. The server was a little unclear on what was on the pierogie pizza (we asked since the menu did not specify), but it turned out to be a base of mashed potatoes, mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, and onions. We got the bacon on the side. The server also mentioned it had sour cream, but it didn't come with any. When I looked online, apparently it was supposed to be on the side. No worries, it was still yummy. Dani and I both agreed that chives would have been better than onions in this case.

I'd go back, it's a good place. It's rather far from us tho, probably a little more than half an hour. And in the land of pizza and cheesesteaks, there's not really a normal need to go further than ten minutes, hehe. I'd recommend it, especially to watch sports. Oh, and their coke is fantastic (for those of you who are picky about your fountain beverages).

Julio's Famous Pizzeria

We kinda felt like Italian food. The internet recommended Julio's Famous Pizzeria, so we drove on down there. It's only about fifteen minutes away, and it's incredibly economical.

Jonathan went with a calzone, with mushrooms, sausage, and pepperoni. He'd get it again, and thoroughly enjoyed each bite.

I chose the Taco Chicken Pouch... an interesting selection. Think of an oval-shaped bread bowl that's really moist and fresh, not hard like bread bowls tend to be. Now, stuff it to the max with chopped chicken mixed with salsa and a *tiny* bit of cheese. That's what it was. I wasn't impressed, but I blame myself. The bread, however, was AMAZING, even as a leftover.

We'll probably be back to Julio's, since it was a neat place inside, the menu was large, and they have something there called a ginacotti. Apparently it's a deep-fried calzone. Sounds different!

Dominick's Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant

It was Friday night. We wanted pizza. We had a new Netflix movie to watch. So we went to Langhorne, picked up a pizza from Dominick's Pizzeria, and went home to watch a movie. It was pretty good pizza (not as delicious as Yardley Pizza), and we'd go there again. We also got some garlic knots, but they don't compare to Carlucci's Express. We went with a bianca pizza (large) with pepperoni. We had a $2 off coupon, which equated to a free topping, so that worked out nicely. Plus, they were nice enough to give Jonathan a side of marinara, so it was like he had a normal pizza while I still had my delicious white pizza. One word of warning: when one of their descriptions includes garlic, they mean it! Luckily, we like garlic so this wasn't a problem.

Meglio

We were both craving pizza, and in our effort to try more local places, we headed into Newtown for Meglio, which specializes in wood-fired pizzas. It was Saturday night and dinnertime, so we had to wait about five minutes for a table, but we got a nice booth.

The service was very friendly, and I'd certainly recommend dining in (there's also a carry-out option). We split a margarita pizza with pepperoni and carmelized onions, and also shared a tortellini pasta salad. The pasta salad was served cold on a bed of lettuce, and included tomatoes, roasted red peppers, garlic, and olive oil. I thought it could have used more garlic, but overall we both thoroughly enjoyed it. The pizza came out very quickly, and also cooled down in just a few minutes. The onions were a little slimier than I was expecting, but the flavor was good (they were cooked with bacon). I didn't like the pizza for the most part, as the sauce had a sweet flavor to it (that Jonathan enjoys), and I didn't think there was enough cheese. Jonathan really liked it, and between eating in the restaurant and the leftovers at home, he ended up having 3/4 of the pizza.

They have quite a menu there, but I don't think that I'd go back, since I don't like their sauce, and I already have a favorite white pizza place (Yardley Pizza). But, I'd still recommend it, since it's more of a personal pickiness than anything else, LoL.

Yardley Pizza

We've been meaning to take in more local pizza. And we found a great place. After we went sledding in Lambertville (NJ), we came back along the river and ate at Yardley Pizza. Family-owned and operated, in downtown Yardley, and they take cash or check only. They also make a great pizza.

We ordered a medium pan pizza to share, with white sauce (olive oil and garlic instead of the traditional marinara) and pepperoni. Great flavor all around. Plus, leftovers! I can't wait to try more!

Brother's Pizza and Restaurant

We wanted to have pho. We drove to our normal pho place, Savor Saigon, but it was closed. We should have known better, since they get wimpy and close whenever it's snowy (we also tried there in December when we ended up at Cheeseburger in Paradise for the first time).

So, we went a couple doors down and tried Brother's Pizza and Restaurant. This is not the same Brother's Pizza that we had back in November, it's a completely different place (not a chain). It's a small little place, and a lot of people got the pizza ($2 a slice, either with tax or they're not charging tax, since many people just gave two singles). We were hankering for something else, so Jonathan got a cheesesteak and I got a chicken wrap with fries.

The cheesesteak was massive, packed full of meat and had the good, melty provolone. He liked it a lot. My chicken wrap also had provolone, and then boasted roasted peppers, tomatoes, and onions. The wrap was more like a pita than a tortilla, which was different. But good. My only complaint was that the grilled chicken was pretty dry, and I had to add ketchup. The fries were very dry and very plain, and I liked them that way. No grease, no soggies, no salt.

We got our order to go, and they were pretty quick, considering they had to cook it all. It was a good deal, and we'll be back (especially after seeing their pizzas!!).

Brother's Pizza

We needed to go to Lowe's to pick up something, so we decided to pick up a pizza from that area while we were out. Now, "that area" isn't anything special... about fifteen minutes from us, near the Denny's.

We found Brother's Pizza online and phoned in a simple order... a large pepperoni pizza and 8 garlic knots. We took it home. I was appalled by the sight of the pizza when we lifted the lid... the most grease I've ever seen on a pizza, I'm pretty sure. I walked away and came back a few minutes later to actually grab a slice. It took two whole paper towels to blot out the majority of grease. The crust was good. The pepperoni was thick in comparison to the pizza. The sauce was average. But the cheese was salty... and that bothers me. So between the grease and the salt, I was not a fan. I had one slice and swore them off. Jonathan thought it was okay, but made no truly positive comments about the taste. And it wasn't uber-cheap pizza or anything... we paid like $13 for the large.

The garlic knots were pretty good. Could have used some parmesan cheese, but at a quarter per knot, the taste was unbeatable. The menu is pretty large, and they do have several Italian baked dinners as well, but I can't really say I'd go back.

Villa Rosa

One evening we ordered from Villa Rosa for dinner. It's one of the six Carlucci restaurants in our area, but the first that we've tried. The garlic knots were delicious (a tiny bit overpriced, maybe), but the pepperoni-and-green pepper pizza was different. The peppers tasted like french-cut green beans more than anything else, and the grease level was a bit obscene. Not bad, but not worth getting again. Carlucci's has a very good reputation, so I'm sure we'll try a couple of their other restaurants tho!

Nino's Pizzarama

We stopped for a late/second dinner at Nino's Pizzarama. Jonathan had a slice of pepperoni, I had a slice of white pie (ricotta instead of marinara) with tomatoes, and we shared 4 garlic knots and a root beer. The pizza was delicious, and I was beyond thrilled at the pizza... truly brings me back to the pizza I had as a young girl. The garlic knots were good (4 for $1.35), too. The root beer is bottled and distributed nearby, with a Nino's label! Delicious, and very little carbonation. We'll remember this place, and likely return. The menu is quite large, but it is a drive!

Venezia Pizza

Then we went to dinner with Andrew (he was in Sunnyvale when we first moved in January, but rotated to Newtown in the spring) at Venezia Pizza. Now that place was a good deal! If you order a dinner, you get a medium salad and bruschetta. I loved my chicken parmigiana (the ziti was HUGE), as did Andrew. Jonathan had the baked ziti, which he liked as well. We also ordered a dozen garlic knots (before we knew the dinners came with so much!), which was delicious. A little bigger and different than the ones at Big Apple, but very good nonetheless. Highly recommended (but at the same time, I have a feeling that many an Italian dish will woo me up here!)

Late Night in Vegas

We were in Vegas for a few days. The night we got in, we walked around the Strip (also known as Las Vegas Blvd.), take photos, and grab some snacks. We waltzed through Paris, and stopped to grab a bite at JJ's Boulangerie, which had fresh and fantastic pizza and gelato. Everyone else had the pizza (Jim and JB each had a slice of the carne, and Vivian had a hawaiian-esque slice), but I wasn't as hungry, so I totally monopolized some fabulous coffee gelato. It was crazy cheap for gelato ($1.79 for a single scoop in a cup, but the single scoop was similar to the size of the "like it" at Cold Stone, so it was BIG), and very good.

Roundtable Pizza

Roundtable Pizza is a much bigger place, and is a chain. We had seen many commercials for them before we actually gave them a go. Our local branch is in the same plaza as Safeway (the grocery store), so while it's close, we don't get them often... they're kinda pricey. But, they do make a very good pizza. We first tried the Meatball Marvel. It had a great crust, one of those mid-rise crusts with handrolling pinches along the edge.... yum! They put seven cheeses on it (seriously!), meatballs, tomatoes, garlic, and caramelized onions. I picked off about half of my meatballs (just not as big a fan as Roundtable is, LoL), but Jonathan liked the flavor combination quite a bit. That was the only specialty pizza we've tried from them, and I honestly don't remember what else we've tried... probably just pepperoni, LoL.

Fast Pizza

Fast Pizza is a mom-and-pop place, located in a plaza maybe a quarter mile from our place. They take about fifteen minutes (great, we have enough time to finish what we're doing, then head down there), and are very good. We've had them several times, both pick-up and delivery. They were the first pizza we got while we were out here, and quickly won us over. We've had two or three of their sauces, and many of their toppings. Our favorite combo is pepperoni and green peppers, with a side of garlic cream sauce. It's fantastic. The only thing I wouldn't recommend: the breadsticks. too blah.
